Here’s what you need to know before you start cooking this dish. For the Serbian rice garnish you can use any type of rice, but the round grain would be preferable. You can use chicken or vegetable soup, depending on your taste and of course whether or not you want Serbian Lenten rice. After adding the chicken broth, you can prepare the rice on the stove or put everything in the oven. You can also use canned tomatoes and fresh tomatoes if you want to make Serbian tomato rice.
Serbian rice side dish recipe
- 200 gr of rice;
- 2 onions;
- 3 peppers;
- salt and pepper;
- 1 carrot;
Method of preparation:
Chop the onion and then sauté it slightly in boiling oil.
Then put the diced peppers, chopped rice and carrot and leave them on the stove for five minutes.
Then put everything in a heat resistant pan, cover with 600 ml of water or vegetable broth and put in the oven.
Leave in the oven until the rice has absorbed all the liquid and is cooked. At the end put a little broth in a container that you will mix with water, salt and pepper to taste, then pour this mixture over the rice and leave it in the oven for another five minutes.
It can be served straight or as a side dish alongside a juicy steak.
